Provides training in the installation, repair, and upgrade of sustainable technology systems. In 2011, the college will introduce a Renewable Energy diploma. Beginning Fall 2012, students completing the Sustainability Technologies program earn an Associate in Applied Science degree.

NC Solar Center at NC State University

The N.C. Solar Center began in 1981 with the creation of a solar house and now covers all renewable energy areas including solar, wind, and biomass. It has teams dedicated to high-performance buildings, clean transportation, economic development, and distributed generation. It also manages DSIRE, the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency, a database of state, local, utility, and federal incentives that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Advocates for Carrboro Greenways is a group of citizens advocating for greenways in Carrboro which provide the following benefits for the community:

  1. Environmental preservation: including traffic mitigation and lowered reliance on fossil fuels.
  2. Safety: safe, off-road link to walk or ride bicycles to school and work.
  3. Recreation: encourage healthy, outdoor recreation.
  4. Access: provide year-round access for everyone in the community including people with disabilities, elderly and children.
  5. Community connector: connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools, community centers and commercial centers.
  6. Transit corridor: an attractive cross-town transit corridor which provides carbon-free transportation.
  7. Environmental education: a natural laboratory for children and adults to learn about nature.
  8. Scenic adventure: Providing natural scenic routes for relaxation and health.

NC GreenPower

NC GreenPower is an independent nonprofit that collects voluntary contributions toward renewable energy and greenhouse gas mitigation. Its goal is to supplement the state’s existing power supply with green energy from the sun, wind, and organic matter. Individuals and businesses can contribute by signing up to buy $4 blocks of green energy when they pay their utility bills. NC GreenPower also offers carbon offsets to balance carbon released during driving or flying.

The Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood Association (RENA) and the Rogers-Eubanks Coalition to End Environmental Racism (CEER)
RENA has been around for decades, providing various kinds of support to the Rogers Road neighborhood. CEER was founded in 2007 to reverse the decision of the Orange County Board of County Commissioners to place a regional solid waste transfer station in the Rogers-Eubanks community, and to redress and reverse the injustices that affect the health and safety of residents in the neighborhoods which abut the landfill.
