Waste & Composting
The Waste group is focused on getting waste viewed as a resource. One project is the largely personal one at Spence's Farm, getting permitted and building a compost facility that is planned to be a viable business venture, collecting materials from restaurants too small for the Orange County pickup that goes to the Brooks composting facility. The group will help with the outreach to restaurants, small businesses, etc.
Another project is the introduction or extension of waste reduction practices in faith communities. St. Thomas More Church and School have done a very good job of recycling and other waste reduction and are serving as a prototype and starting point for discussions. We have created a pamphlet to use for discussion and St. Thomas More has worked with Waste Reduction Partners (WRP) to audit the STM waste streams from church and school.
Contact for this group is Bob Weickert.
